NI-1401 is a fully human mAb that binds specifically and selectively to two forms of the human IL-17 family of cytokines. The various combinations of IL-17 proteins are pivotal cytokines released from T helper 17 cells, deficiencies of which in animal models result in resistance or amelioration of inflammation in the lung, skin, brain and joints. Furthermore, IL-17 overexpression has been observed in the explanted samples from rheumatoid arthritic synovium, diseased bowel and allergen challenged diseased patients.
