NI-1201/α-IL-6Rc
NI-1201 is a fully human mAb that binds specifically and selectively to the receptor in the complex formed with the cytokine, IL-6Rc. NI-1201 has a novel mechanism of action in that it interferes with the binding of the receptor-cytokine complex to the transmembrane expressed signalling protein, gp130, thereby neutralising IL-6Rc activity. IL-6Rc is a pleotrophic cytokine exercising both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory activities, and Tocilizumab has recently been approve for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. NI-1201 differentiates itself from Tocilizumab in being fully human. In addition, blocks the soluble form of the cytokine-receptor complex signaling pathway as well as it’s ability to bind to cell surface receptor-cytokine complex. These differences may result in lower safety issues as well as to explore new indications beyond what has been done to date by competitors.
